Sea to Sky GeoTour 2025

Description: There is no better place for students (and teachers) to learn about rocks and minerals, plate tectonics, volcanoes, glaciers, and natural hazards than right here in British Columbia. Our uplifted mountains reveal Earth’s crust right before our eyes and those mountain-building processes continue today!

Join MineralsEd and Douglas College Instructor Dr. Derek Turner for a trip along the Sea to Sky Corridor between Vancouver and Whistler to learn about this region’s compelling and complex natural history.

We will:

  • Highlight main geologic elements (granitic, volcanic, and sedimentary rocks);
  • Identify natural geologic hazards related to the unique geologic setting; and
  • Unravel the diverse geological history (mountain building, volcanism, glaciation).

This outstanding trip will benefit teachers at all grade levels who teach units in Earth Science, Geology, mineral resources, and mining; and is particularly relevant to those who want to lead their very own field trip!
